Our variety of original motifs and styles use exciting colors, textures, and fiber combinations. As a result, Silk Road Weaves™ area rugs have a contemporary look, while making great design sense even when used in traditional or mixed-style décor or when used together in adjacent rooms. All rugs from Silk Road Weaves™ are original designs by Barbara Jacobs, and are entirely hand made in Nepal every step of the way from collecting the raw wool to hand knotting in the Tibetan traditional method. The basis of the rugs is the renowned lanolin-rich, long fiber wool from sheep living in the high mountain ranges of Tibet. Each Silk Road Weaves™ rug is individually labeled, certified Rugmark Made.

Silk Road Weaves: Vision + Artistry

Color, Texture, and Socially Responsible Design are Under Foot

Thank you for visiting Silk Road Weaves™. This new line of hand knotted Tibetan rugs designed by Barbara Jacobs consists of varied collections of rugs, hand knotted in Nepal by a company that holds the highest standard of worker care and employs no children.

Color consultant Barbara Jacobs and Silk Road Weaves™ were most recently featured in the article, "Wake up the Color in Spring 2007," on the cnn.com web site. Click here to read the article.

Barbara weaves her philosophy of supportive color design throughout the line that she describes as "vision + artistry, a truly sensory experience." The luminous colors and the tactile dimensions derive from color and fiber selections combined with traditional weaving methods. These are works of art that the owners can expect to become heirlooms.

Answering your questions

Where can I use a Silk Road Weaves™ rug?

From elegant to informal settings, corporate environments or fine homes, any room will come alive with a Silk Road Weaves™ rug. The current sophisticated design trend for corporate settings is well complemented by our rugs.

Can you customize?

We have a wonderful range of customization capabilities for color, texture, shape, and size. This includes designing completely original custom rugs when the client has need of that service.

What about child labor?

It is important to Barbara as an artist that her rug line not use illegal child labor in their production. We are a designer/importer member of Rugmark™, an organization that monitors weaving facilities in Nepal to make sure there is no illegal child labor ever used in any aspect of production. In fact, the company that weaves Silk Road Weaves™ rugs for Ms. Jacobs is owned by one of the founders of Rugmark™. In 1997, the owner received an award of distinction from MAHR (Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights), for fighting against child labor, especially in the carpet industry, and was honored for running her company with certain social philosophies and outstanding ethical business practices that include many worker benefits as part of their company structure.
